Bunk beds don’t last forever, even if that’s what the salesman told you.
Most metal frames will last a few years, then they’ll begin to rust, rot, or just break from regular use. That’s why most universities and camps have to replace their beds every few years. Best case, you may be falling asleep to the shaky squeaks of the frame.
However, if you maintain your investment they will last for years to come. Here’s how to get your bunk beds to last as long as they’re worth.
Tighten Hardware Regularly
Tighten up all connections on a regular basis. Don’t over tighten, but if you have used your beds for a full season the screws may be a little loose and could use a little maintenance.
Paint for Protection
Repaint the frames if you see the paint chipping off, or the base color coming out. The paint protects against rust and humidity, and will make your beds last longer. If a significant amount of paint has come off, disassemble the beds, sand off the paint and repaint it altogether.
Maintain Cleanliness
Cleanup messes and spills quickly, and don’t let liquids set in. Our mattresses are waterproof, so cleanup is easy.
Invest in Heavy Duty Bed Frames
Buy stronger, heavier duty frames/platforms (avoid springs). ESS universal Bunk Beds are rated at 500lbs per platform and made to outlast the competition.
